GOURAMI – DWARF SUNSET THICKLIP
Colisa labiosa

$11.99

The Sunset Thicklip Dwarf Gourami is a great choice for the beginner hobbyist due to their generally peaceful nature and ease of care. These colorful gouramis have been selectively bred from wild C. labiosa populations in order to have their bright appearance. Both males and females of this color strain are gold to orange color. Gouramis are Labyrinth fish, which means that they can directly breathe from the surface. Unlike some gouramis, the Sunset thicklip dwarf gourami does prefer to be kept in the company of its own kind. We suggest having no fewer than 3 to 4 individuals. An adult Sunset thicklip dwarf gourami can reach a size of approximately 3-1/2″.

General Description: The Sunset Thicklip Dwarf Gourami is a great choice for the beginner hobbyist due to their generally peaceful nature and ease of care.

Diet Requirements: Sunset thicklip dwarf gouramis are omnivores. A diet made up of various high quality vegetable based and protein based flake foods, sinking micro pellet foods and bug bites are ideal, in addition to offering frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia. Variety is the spice of life in order to maintain color, immune function and longevity of your fish.

Care Requirements: An established minimum 30 gallon aquarium is ideal for a small group of Sunset thicklip dwarf gouramis. Dwarf gouramis should not be added into a biologically immature aquarium, as they are intolerable of nitrite and ammonia. Weekly water changes are encouraged to keep water parameters up to standard for Sunset thicklip dwarf gouramis (Nitrates < 25 ppm). Because these gouramis are bred on an aquaculture basis and not from the wild, they are very adaptable to a wide range of water parameters. The aquarium can be aquascaped with rocks and driftwood to provide ample hiding places, but vegetation (preferably live) should be on the denser side. Dwarf gouramis would also benefit from some floating plants to provide areas of shade. Without sufficient hiding places and shade, this species can be extremely shy and more withdrawn. Use caution when adding other Labyrinth fish, including Bettas, in with gouramis. Compatability with other gourami species is variable, as the Sunset thicklip dwarf gourami is very docile and could easily be bullied by more vigorous gourami species. Dwarf gouramis would thrive best in a calm community-type aquarium that does not have overly competitive or aggressive tank mates. Tetras, rasboras, certain barbs and more peaceful cichlids are all good options. Recommended water conditions, 74-82° F, KH 5-15, pH 6.0-7.5.

Purchase Size: Medium: 1-1/2″ to 2”
