General Description: The Trochus Snail, also known as the Turban Snail or Banded Trochus Snail, is a snail that every marine hobbyist needs in their aquarium. Reaching a size of 1″, the Trochus snail has a black foot with a pyramind-shaped shell often with maroon bands, adding a pop of flare to your invertebrate clean up crew. The Trochus snail is well suited for reef aquariums and is one of few snail species that can right itself if flipped over.
Diet Requirements: Trochus snails are herbivores. They consume various algae on the glass and live rock. Additionally, Trochus snails are excellent at cleaning up nuisance cyanobacteria. If insufficient algae is present, we recommend supplementing sheet algae or vegetable-based tablet foods to prevent starvation.
Tank Requirements: An established, minimum aquarium size of 10 gallons is recommended to house Trochus snails. Maintaining stable water parameters is a component to the success of keeping this invertebrate; snails are intolerable of high nitrates. Generous live rock with some crevices will mimic the Trochus snail’s natural environment and give it space to roam. It is imperative to take time acclimating Trochus snails; we suggest via drip acclimation over an hour or more. Recommended water conditions: 76-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.024-1.026.
