Reef Compatible: With CautionÂ
General Description: The Pom Pom Crab originates from Hawaii and Indonesia. They’re an interesting addition to a marine aquarium, carrying a small anemone in each claw. These crabs are white or tan in color with darker blotches that aid in camouflage. It raises and waves these tiny anemones to grab food particles, but also in defense of would-be predators. On average, these crabs will grow to 1″ in size.
Diet Requirements: Pom pom crabs are omnivorous. Their diet should include pieces of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and clams but they will clean up extra food throughout the aquarium.
Tank Requirements: An established, minimum aquarium size of 10 gallons is recommended to house a Pom pom crab. Maintaining stable water parameters is a component to the success of keeping this invertebrate. Adding a Pom pom crab into a reef aquarium is “with caution” due to the tiny anemones it does carry. While small, these anemones can still sting any coral in the path of this crab. Do not house Pom pom crabs with other boisterous and aggressive crab species. Recommended water conditions: 76-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.024-1.026.
