General Description: The Porcelain Anemone Crab originates from Indonesia and are an interesting, peaceful invertebrate for the marine aquarium. These crabs are white with blotches of red or brown and have a pair of large claws to ward off predators. Not to be mistaken with Porcelain Crabs (Petrolisthes sp.), the Porcelian anemone crab has a symbiotic relationship with anemones and typically live in pairs under the protection of an anemone. On average, these crabs will grow to 1″ in size.
Diet Requirements: Porcelain anemone crabs are both carnivores and filter feeders. They benefit greatly by having an anemone, as these crabs do consume mucus from the anemone as part of their diet and particles of fish food caught by the anemone. Planktonic foods (such as zoo-and-phyto plankton) are recommended for filter feeding.
Tank Requirements: An established, minimum aquarium size of 15 gallons is recommended to house a Porcelain anemone crab in order to accomodate its anemone host. Maintaining stable water parameters is a component to the success of keeping this invertebrate. Porcelain anemone crabs are not compatible with conspecific crabs (i.e., other species of Porcelain crabs). Do not house this crab with other boisterous and aggressive crab species. Recommended water conditions: 76-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.024-1.026.
