General Description: The Citron Goby, also referred to as the Citrin Goby, has a wide distribution across the Indo-Pacific and Fiji. A small fish with unparalleled personality to match as it hops across the live rock, the Citron goby is strikingly yellow with light blue stripes on its face. Not to be mistaken for a Yellow Clown Goby (Gobiodon okinawae) which has a smaller adult size, is solid yellow in color and has a much more compact body shape. A Citron goby can reach an adult size of approximately 2″.
Diet Requirements: The Citron goby is primarily carnivorous. A diet largely consisting of high quality, vitamin enriched frozen preparations is absolutely necessary to maintain optimal health, coloration, and immune function. Such foods can include, but are not limited to, brine shrimp, calanus, cyclopeeze and rotifers. We highly encourage soaking frozen foods in vitamin and fatty acid supplements. Multiple, small feedings per day rather than one large feeding will also create more of a natural environment for this goby as it would feed in the wild. A Citron goby may accept high quality flake and micro-pellet foods.
Care Requirements: A minimum 10 gallon aquarium is ideal to house a Citron goby. Spending most of its time on the live rock, the Citron goby will appreciate some type of aquascape. Do not house Citron gobies with overly aggressive and pugnacious tank-mates. Citron gobies are often selected for reef tanks, but caution should be taken when introducing a Citron goby to a SPS dominated aquarium. In the wild, Citron gobies consume the mucous of Acropora but may also do so to other small-polyp stony corals. Typically only one Citron goby is suggested per aquarium, unless it is large enough to accomodate territories of three or more individuals. Recommended water conditions, 72-78° F, KH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025.
