General Description: The Banggai Cardinalfish, also known as the Kaudern’s Cardinal or Longfin Cardinalfish, has an extremely limited range in the wild and is restricted to the Banggai Archipelago of Indonesia. Its overall body coloration is a shimmering silver, highlighted with pearly white spots. Bold, black stripes along the body accentuate the long fins. They can reach an adult size of 3 inches in length. Note: Aquatics Unlimited recognizes the impact of the aquarium trade on certain wild fish populations. Therefore, all of our Banggai cardinals are sourced from aquaculture.
Diet Requirements: The Banggai Cardinal should be fed multiple small meals each day to help reproduce natural foraging behavior. Their diet should consist of a well-balanced variety including enriched frozen brine shrimp and mysis shrimp, along with a high quality marine pellet or flake food.
Care Requirements: House the Banggai Cardinalfish in a 30 gallon or larger aquarium aquascaped with a generous amount of live rock to form caves and overhangs for hiding. In the wild they often associate with invertebrates such as sea urchins, sea anemones, and branching corals. Groups are seen hovering above the urchins, with the younger ones about 2 to 3 centimeters in size staying closest to them. The young fish will retreat among the spines when threatened. These Cardinals do best with peaceful tank mates as they are slow swimmers. Groups of Banggai Cardinalfish can be kept in relative peace in larger systems with plenty of swimming and hiding spaces. They are reef safe, and will not bother coral polyps or other invertebrates. Recommended water conditions, 72-78° F, KH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025.
