General Description: The Huchtii Anthias is also known as the Redcheek or Green Anthias, and is native to the west-central Pacific ocean ranging from the Maluku Islands and the Philippines east to Vanuatu, south as far the Great Barrier Reef in the Tasman Sea, as well as the Scott Reef and the Ashmore Reefs in the Timor Sea their distribution extends as far east as Palau in Micronesia. The males are yellowish green in color with an orange stripe located just behind the eye. Their fins are outlined in an electric blue color that gives the fish a very dramatic look. The females are not as brightly colored as the males and share the same orange stripe behind the eye. Huchtii Anthias can reach an adult length of 4.5 to 5 inches, although females are typically half the size of males.
Diet Requirements: In the wild Anthias feed on zooplankton and occur in areas with strong currents such as reef faces, slopes, drop off zones. In the aquarium they do best when fed a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched frozen brine shrimp, and over time may begin to feed upon high-quality flake foods and pellets offered in small quantities throughout the day.Â
Care Requirements: Huchtii Anthias do best when kept in an aquarium of at least 125 gallons in groups and tend to dwell in the middle of the aquarium but appreciates the availability of several hiding places. It is best housed with peaceful tank mates such as gobies. If you keep more than one, it is ideal to introduce all anthias at the same time. They make a beautiful addition to the active fish-only marine aquarium as well as the mixed reef aquarium. To best recreate a natural reef environment for the Huchtii Anthias, aquascape with a generous amount of live rock and create slopes, caves, and overhangs for an interesting and diverse reef aquarium landscape. They are considered reef safe and will not bother coral or other large invertebrates. Recommended water conditions, 72-78° F, KH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025.
