General Description: The Flame Angel may be one of the most popular dwarf angelfish due to its bold color, adaptability to aquarium life, and relative hardiness. With a bold red/orange color with vertical black stripes highlighting the body and horizontal black stripes along the rear of the blue-tipped dorsal and anal fins. Differences in color and markings among individuals are common depending on origin and collection point. Adult size is approximately 4 inches.
Diet Requirements: Offer a diet primarily made up of algae including Spirulina, Chlorella, and marine sheet algae. Angel specific frozen foods, a high quality marine flake or pellet, and other enriched frozen foods are excellent options for a balanced and varied diet.
Care Requirements: As an adult these angels should be housed in a minimum 75 gallon aquarium with lots of hiding places and live rock for grazing. If the Flame Angelfish is to be added to a peaceful community, it should be the last fish introduced. The Flame Angelfish adapts well to aquarium life, but should be kept in an established system and housed with dissimilar genera. The Centropyge genus includes some of the best angelfish for a reef system. Take caution however, an especially underfed, under nourished, or crammed individual may nip at coral polyps. The Flame Angel is highly sensitive to copper and copper based medications. Recommended water conditions, 72-78° F, KH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025.
