General Description: The Astrea Snail, sometimes referred to as the Conehead Snail, is a peaceful and voracious algae eater that you’ll want for your marine aquarium. Reaching a size of 1″, the Astrea snail has a pyramind-shaped shell that is beige to olive in color. This snail is very adept at keeping your aquarium clean of various algae and diatoms. Take care in observing these snails day to day, as they ocassionally fall off from the glass and cannot turn themselves back over if they are right side up.
Diet Requirements: Astrea snails are herbivores. They consume various algae on the glass and live rock, including hair algae, and diatoms. If insufficient algae is present, we recommend supplementing sheet algae or vegetable-based tablet foods to prevent starvation.
Tank Requirements: An established, minimum aquarium size of 10 gallons is recommended to house Astrea snails. Maintaining stable water parameters is a component to the success of keeping this invertebrate; snails are intolerable of high nitrates. Generous live rock with some crevices will mimic the Astrea snail’s natural environment and give it space to roam. Keeping several individuals of Astrea snail are encourged given their size. It is imperative to take time acclimating Astrea snails; we suggest via drip acclimation over an hour or more. Recommended water conditions: 76-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.024-1.026.
